Understanding State Nomination Programs
Australian states and territories can nominate skilled workers for permanent residency through the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491). Each state has its own occupation list, requirements, and nomination criteria.
State nomination provides an additional 5 points for subclass 190 visas and 15 points for subclass 491 visas, making it easier to meet the minimum points requirement of 65. However, many states have competitive selection processes and may require higher points thresholds for certain occupations.
Each state and territory has different nomination criteria, occupation lists, and processing times. Some states may require job offers, previous residency, or have specific pathways for different occupations.
Our experienced migration agents can help you understand which state nomination program best fits your occupation and circumstances, and guide you through the application process.
